Taking in Tanzanian Muziki wa dansi (Dance band music), Congolese inspired Rumba and the hypnotic sounds of Islamic Taarab music, Zanzibara presents Swahili popular music of the East African coast, from Lamu, Mombasa, Tanga, Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and the Comoros.
The compilation covers archival recordings from the 1960s-1980s - originally pressed in tiny quantities – and contemporary Taarab recordings never before released on vinyl.
