Impétueux, aventurier et libre, il redémarre une nouvelle carrière en Europe et se fait un nom auprès des plus grands jazzmen : il tourne avec Toots Thielemans, joue avec Steve Swallow, Enrico Rava, John Scofield, enregistre avec Ron Carter, Mike Richmond, Adam Nussbaum, Daniel Humair... Maître de l'harmonie, auteur de plusieurs méthodes consacrées à cette dernière et reconnu pour cela par Dave Liebman qui l'invite dans son école pour conduire une master classe, il se consacre aussi à l'enseignement en créant le département jazz du conservatoire de Lyon.
